It was intended to provide sports and leisure provisions for people who attended Catholic churches across Sunderland. However as it was predominantly accessed by the young people of the surrounding area both the constitution and name were updated to reflect this. The centre now welcomes the whole community irrespective of faith and age. On October, 25th 2006 Sans Street Youth and Community Centre was launched.
The Centre now aims to provide improved facilities and services to young people and the wider community.
